Chronic pain can severely impact an individual's
quality of life.
Physical pain is caused by a variety of factors
and may range from simple to complex, depending
on the root cause. Pain may be the result
of a minor injury, such as a turned ankle,
that requires little more than elevation,
application of ice packs, wrapping, and time
to heal. Other times, though, the root cause
of the pain is far more difficult to identify
and treat, resulting in the need for greater
interventions and pain management strategies.
Some of these strategies may include interventional
procedures, medication management, physical
or chiropractic therapy, acupuncture, referral
to medical practitioners specializing in specific
areas of the body, or psychological counseling
and support to address the debilitating emotional
aspects of physical pain.
When traditional medicine does not adequately
address pain management issues, it is often
helpful to look at the integration of complimentary
and/ or alternative treatments.
